Hate animal cruelty? "Get over it."

These are some of the comments posted in the Chadron, Nebraska radio station’s online guest book:

If you are concerned about the seemingly disgusting mistreatment of animals during the Rubber Check Races at the Dawes County Fair on Thursday evening August 4, 2011 please contact a Dawes County Fair Board Member or send your concerns in writing to Dawes County Fair Board, PO Box 424, Chadron, NE 69337. It is important that your concerns be voiced so that consideration be given to changing this practice. Also if you have praises for the fair I encourage you to contact a fair board member also. PLEASE if you have concerns let them know.

I'm also concerned about the animals at the rubber check race. I was only able to watch for about 15 min. as I just could not stand to watch those chickens being thrown around and those goats being scared to death anymore. If this is how the rubber check race will be held in the future as well I will no longer attend this event or the rest of the fair. K4L

I think those of you that were offended because of the Rubber Check Race are mis-informed. The chickens thought of the ride in the crate as roller coaster ride. They didn't get hurt, I believe they actually enjoyed the ride. The chickens figured out pretty quick that it was easier if they sat in the corner and let them pick you up rather than run from them and sit back and enjoy the ride. Everyone had a good time people and animals (animals are not people, by the way) If you did not enjoy watching, stay home and help make the rest of us happy knowing we won't have to listen to you whine.

I cannot believe you actually made the statement that "they are animals not people" as if that makes a huge difference? So in your opinion it is OK to be cruel to animals because they are not people? WOW!

Although I COMPLETELY agree that those offended by the rubber check race are misinformed, I also think you are equally as misinformed, or rather not informed. Did the chickens tell you that they enjoyed the ride? No, because animals do not have feelings. You trying to argue against animal rightist by saying that they are wrong about what they think the animals are feeling is equally as incorrect because you are also saying that they have feelings. I do on the other hand also agree that if they are offended or disagree with the happenings at the rubber check race that they should simply not attend and mind their own!

The “get over it” mentality concerning treatment of animals thrives here. I hate it.

1. People have to disassociate themselves...
Because if they really thought about it they would realize how completely horrible they are to other living things.
