One question about weenies and one about fish oil!
What is the best vegan hot dog out there? Are there any that taste like real hot dogs?

Also how can I get my omega 3 without taking fish oil capsules?

Thanks!

I went the entire month of February without eating animals. How about that? :-)

1. In my honest opinion
there is no good vegan hotdog, they all have some sort of rubbery fake taste to them. But that's just my opinion, I know people who love the things.

Flax oil is your best bet for vegan omega-3. Take 1 tablespoon per 100 lbs. of bodyweight daily. You can take it plain (it has a light, nutty-sour flavor, easily washed down with water or juice) or you can add it to protein shakes, use it as a salad dressing, pretty much anything, just don't cook with it.

2. Lightlife makes good veggie dogs
I am not much for "fake meat", but these aren't bad. I can get them at Trader Joe's. Smothered in brown mustard and onions and you won't know the difference.

Check here for other locations.

3. I don't care too much for fake hotdogs.
But Morningstar's are not half bad.

4. I think Yves are the best, but they give me heartburn
so I eat SmartDogs.

5. For the dogs, don't get the fat free ones
I've found that the ones with a bit of fat have a better texture and taste.

The morningstar corn dogs are pretty tasty.

6. Vegetarian Flax Seed Oil Capsules for your omega 3's
http://www.vitacost.com/Store/Products/ProductDescription.cfm?SKUNumber=010043070052&source=incept

No animal by products in the gelatin. Cheap. About 3000 times better than choking down a fish and none of the mercury and other toxins you get from sea creatures.

I too am in search and waiting for a decent vegan hot dog. I like morningstar farms corn dogs but I think they're vegetarian, might contain some milk proteins. Not sure though.

8. I like a brand called tofu pups
I don't know who makes them but I think they taste better than the others. They are in red packaging. I add flax oil to my salad dressings. That way I always get my omega 3's.

9. Quorn Hot Dogs are great. As are all Quorn products....
...if you're looking for a real hot dog taste, try them out. They're best boiled, or in the microwave. If you cook them in the microwave, cover them with plastic wrap as suggested on the label, but also add a little water, maybe a tablespoon per 2 hot dogs.

If you cook them on the grill, I would disregard the label and but them in foil with a little water, so that they don't dry out.

10. I LOVE vegetarian hot dogs.
Lightlife makes a good one, but if you want something bigger, try Boca's smoked sausages. I think they have just the right taste.
