I didn't get called for an interview..
You guys were so wonderful and encouraging when I posted about applying for a job at my county's animal shelter, so I wanted post an update. 225 people applied for 3 positions. The county narrowed the field down to 6 folks that were gonna get called for interviews and then fill the 3 positions from there.

I did, however, sign up to volunteer at my vet's office. I start there on Saturday, July 30th. They are a completely no-kill shelter and right now they are overloaded with kittens. My first job will be working at socializing these kittens so they can be put up for adoption. Boy, that's gonna be a tough one ~ playing with kittens for three hours ~ don't know if I can take it!! ;) :P

Thanks again for all your support ~ DU Veggies are the greatest!!

2. Thank you, smbolisnch...
It should be fun volunteering there. I adopted one of my kitty girls from there back in November. They are super nice and I really like that they are a totally no-kill shelter :hi:

3. This is a win-win situation for the animals.
Granted, I'm sure that you would've shined much brighter than the successful applicant at animal services, and that would've been a paid position in the legal end of advocacy. However, they still get the position filled AND the shelter gets a new volunteer, you!! Those kittens are very, very lucky to have not just a volunteer, but someone that truly, deeply cares about them.

Congrats!!

5. Sorry about the job, but volunteering at the vet's is great!
Ah jeez, you have to play with kittens all day?

Also, if another job becomes available at the shelter, having experience at the vet's will be a plus.

6. Surprisingly, I've heard animal-related jobs
(vet-assistant, working at animal shelters, etc.) are very competitive. No one wants to take the animals, but plenty of people want to help care for them. That's good, I guess...

Congrats on the volunteer work, though. Go easy on the kittens... :)
