http://www.justiceandjim.modblog.com/To set the record straight, the entire dog stunt was a complete fabrication. A combination of dog sound effects, recorded audio of our stunt guy outside the building and recordings I made of water splashing using my 3 year old son Logan’s kiddy pool.
Again...THERE WAS NO DOG.
Melinda Howard, of the Greater Grand Rapids Child Safety Coalition will be leading a child safety class today at Millennium Park between Noon and 3pm today. (she would also like to make aware that she did not know of our stunt at the time the interview was recorded)
There was never any intention to drown a dog, or bring harm to any animal, what so ever. What you heard, and the way the show was executed, was exactly as we had planned.
What we did this morning, needed to happen to grab the proper attention about the dangers of children and water related accidental deaths.<snip>
On their website is an email these idiots think "says it best":
Don't know if you will get the chance to read this but in hopes that you do, the whole Mindy the Dog stunt was interesting to me as I listened to it un- fold, most people were ready to kick your butt or worse and others thought you were monsters. as you pointed out, it amazed you that in 2005 people would even believe that you were capable of this. (on a side note, this email writer apparently has never been to an animal shelter or seen Animal Cops) My amazing pearl of wisdom is that I noticed people wanted you guys dead for drowning a dog, they never once expressed any outrage about the 2 kids that are gone forever and the senseless loss of life they were. (on another side note, YES, it is senseless and tragic, but those were accidental deaths, NOT intentional drownings - how is this a comparison?) Don't get me wrong, I have a dog and love her as much as my own kids, but I find it all too sad in this society where we literally will put an animal above a human life. Animals are worth fighting for sure but people have lost perspective when they threaten you and fail to see the true tragedy here.

I can't help but notice this line: "people wanted you guys dead for drowning a dog, they never once expressed any outrage about the 2 kids that are gone forever and the senseless loss of life they were."
Excuse me but am I the only one who sees the MAJOR difference between an accidental drowning and intentionally getting an animal just to drown it to "make a statement"? Of course these kids drowning accidentally is a tragedy and a senseless loss of life, but how does that compare to intentionally drowning a life, and what would an intentional drowning prove anyway? I realize it didn't really happen, but if it did, how does that somehow "show" people to be outraged at children accidentally drowning? It is a complete tragedy yes, but it was an ACCIDENT. Had this dog actually been drowned, it would have been adopted just to torture it and drown it on PURPOSE. BIG difference.
Someone please tell me they understand me here, and think this was a sick and stupid stunt too. Aside from that, I've read that people listening to this on the radio this morning (the DJs actually went so far as to make a fake audio of a dog thrashing in wate) were so upset that the town's 9-1-1 system was completely jammed. What if somewhere in the town another child was drowning or an elderly person was having a heart attack? Then they would have unnecessarily gotten people all upset for absolutely nothing and contributed to another person's suffering and possible death. Joking about crimes are NOT funny and they are especially disgusting with innocent life is involved.
This is why it is illegal to yell "fire" in a crowded room - this whole thing was stupid and senseless, and doesn't "prove" anything. I'm sure these DJs intentions were good, but this was incredibly ill-conceived and they should be punished for doing this.
