Any other Adium users?
http://adium.sourceforge.net/

replaces AIM, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, and Gaim. it's still being worked on (currently version .77) but it is fanTASTIC. all of your messenger accounts can be kept in one program

it allows buddy icons in msn (finally), and is insanely customizable. check out www.adiumextras.com for lots of alert sounds, icons, and skins

1. I was, but it didn't feel like part of the OS...
I hated the little balloons in iChat, but once I realized I could turn them off, I switched back. It seems like it belongs so much more than Adium.

8. but ichat looks so clunky- Adium you can have look however you want!

You can make you buddy list blend in with your desktop or you can have it look like ichat if you really want. You can tweak the chat windows- make them smaller, less clunky (mine are just text- no big icons). And you can change the dock icon. Right now mine is a little chat bubble that changes color- even better than ichat.

I just can't recommend adium enough- I love it and haven't ever had any problems with it.

Its one of the best free mac apps out there- that and firefox would be my vote for best free apps.

9. Mine are just text in iChat...
They are the colors I want, and that doesn't change. I never look at the buddy list anyway, with the menu bar I can see all the buddies that are available. I know Adium is customizable, but the file transfer is terrible. When I transfer things, I can't have something like Adium.

3. ive been using adium for quite awhile
its come very far. one thing that bothers me is they seem to ignore developing for 10.2 and focus on new features for 10.3

4. well, you really cant begrudge them that
i understand the problem, but it IS the older OS. plus, 10.2 is going to be 2 releases old soon, after Tiger comes out.

in any case, i love the program, and the fact that you can do pretty much anything to it

5. Adium user here!
I like it because it's so much more customizable than iChat. I can pretty much make it look and feel however I want.

If you want, you can try out the 0.8 beta at beta.adiumx.com. Lots of improvements :)
