Think Secret: Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger to arrive in April
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 04:00 PM by allemand
By Ryan Katz, Senior Editor
March 11, 2005 - Apple will officially announce Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger's release at an event in early April and will begin shipping the operating system within two or three weeks afterwards, Think Secret has learned. Apple has previously only stated that Tiger will ship during the first half of the 2005.

The event, sources say, is currently scheduled for Friday, April 1 and will be delivered via satellite to numerous locations around the world. Unknown at this point is where the event will take place and whether the media or other outsiders will be invited to attend. Well placed sources say Tiger will likely be in stores by April 15.

Multiple pieces of information gleaned from sources in recent weeks have pointed to an April release date for Tiger. Apple has doubled the software metrics for stores and resellers for the second quarter, ending May 31, for example. While several new software titles slated for release at NAB on April 18 will boost software revenue for stores, Tiger will be the jewel that Apple expects will allow resellers to double their sales from the first quarter.

I hope that this is true. But April 1 as official release day...?

It's SO sweet. It has a graphing calculator (sorry, I'm a math geek)! And if you like Konfabulator, then you'll like Dashboard. Not to mention spotlight and Automator. And it's FASTER than 10.3. Don't you just love it when a company releases a new product and it's actually better than their last version???

7. For the record, Mercury will be Retrograde when Tiger appears
That is not a cheery celestial omen. I am about to buy a new Powerbook, but may wait to buy until May to see how well 10.4 functions in the hands of users.

8. Not a bad idea
You'll save yourself the cost of the software and let others have the headaches.

I'm considering getting a Mac Mini for my second computer, but I'd rather wait until I see how Tigar works with that computer.

9. Did I make a mistake
in buying the 10.3? Should I have waited? I just can't keep up with the technology changes.

10. It's best not to buy the very latest technology
It's better to wait and let the get the bugs worked out of this new OS. Look to upgrade around 10.4.1 or 10.4.2.

13. True... but I dunno if I can hold off...
I cloned my computer as it is now on my external hard drive, so if anything goes wrong, I'll just revert back. I am looking forward to the new Mail and Automator most of all...

12. Tiger almost ready? Build 8A420 Seeded
"Late last night Apple seeded members of it's Developer Connection program with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger Build 8A420. This is one of the last builds seeded before 10.4 goes gold-master reports our source.

In an email sent to us, confirmed by several of our members, the only "Known Issue" in the seednote is that 1.33 GHz 14" iBooks with SuperDrives may not be able to boot of the install DVD. I expect one more build before it's final, just to fix this issue and clean up everything. Tiger may be closer then we all think! This build is 2.26 GB."

14. I can't SEE the Tiger demo, because I'm on a WINDBLOWS machine.
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 09:16 PM by the dogfish
And this Microsucks Windblows machine, see, is always buggy. Its' latest affliction, see, is not to show me stuff like the Tiger demo, on the Apple site. Because this pc is GARBAGE, see.

It knows I've been shopping for my new G5... BECAUSE I'VE BEEN DOING IT ONLINE, AT THE APPLE STORE, ON THE PC hahhahahahahahahhhaha

What a sick joy I'm getting out of doing it, too.
