Review: Mac Os X Steps Ahead of Windows

Tired of waiting while your PC slowly scours its hard drive for a document you stashed somewhere six months ago? Sick of having to change how you work to conform with the computer's rigid way of organizing files? Bored with the flat look of the desktop's graphics?

Microsoft's next-generation operating system for Windows, code-named Longhorn, is supposed to address such digital woes. It may even be released in time for Christmas 2006.

But if you've got a Macintosh computer, or plan to buy one, those issues have been tackled. They're amply addressed in the latest update of Mac OS X, dubbed "Tiger," goes on sale Friday.

Despite a much smaller user base, Mac OS X has been steps ahead of Windows on key fronts since its first release in 2001. It's got more advanced and polished graphics. It's less prone to malicious attacks. And Macs look better than nearly all Windows PCs.

1. Mac OS stepped ahead of "Winders" in 1985

and hasn't looked back since. I laughed when I read the pre-release show of Longhorn that Gates managed a couple of weeks back. He is touting a group of features that have been available since Jaguar; fast search, optimized for 64bit computing, etc...

But Mac OS X has recently become interesting even to people outside the Cult of Macintosh. The more Microsoft Windows is bogged down by viruses, spyware and disruptive security updates, the more miserable life becomes - and the more the long-suffering Windows majority begins to investigate virus-free, spyware-free alternatives like Mac OS X.

Overall, Tiger is the best and most advanced personal computer operating system on the market, despite a few drawbacks. It leaves Windows XP in the dust.

4. But I *hate* Apple, Steve Jobs is So Arrogant, There's no Mac Software

MAC are TOO expensive, Windows XP is just the same only the icons are different, iRiver is just as good, iPods only play MAC proprietary files, there are no games for Mac, the only reason you don't have viruses is because nobody uses MACS.

Bill Gates is too a liberal, So STOP SAYING HE IS HORRIBLE!

And Linux is better than OS X!

5. I have just one question:

Will "Tiger", aka OS10.4, still be OS9 compatible? I'm still addicted to that old dinosaur, Civ II.

6. Yes OS 10.4 still has "classic" compatibility --

However, personally for old stuff like Civ II, I bought an older mac -- old beige g3s are pretty cheap now. . .I got one for 35.00 I think earlier this year.
