So what's the deal these days with USB adapters?
I'm finally casting off (I know, several years too late) my last Mac with the old-style ports.

Scanner, printer, GPS thingy, etc... none of the old gear is USB. I remember a few years back the adapters were sketchy and expensive; at the time it was making more sense to people to just get new gear.

Has any of that changed? Or is it still better to just get all-new (to me) USB printer, scanner etc.?

1. Yes, get new components. Printers and scanners are so much
better now. I had to give up my old UMAX scanner. It was such a brick.

30 day moneyback guarentee, good reviews on the net.

I have used a similar product from griffin technology called gport that has worked ***great*** for me with both a g3 and g4 tower and some older midi gear, but I am not sure they make anymore:

Anyway stealth port does the same thing, and people seem to like it. . .w 30 day moneyback how can you go wrong?

4. I could have moved my printer from my G3's serial port to the SCSI port
But my scanner was already there. So I traded them both for a USB/Firewire card and a USB printer/scanner/fax for a total of $140. My keyboard's ADB port still works, but ironically, the mouse it came with is a USB with an ADB adaptor!

5. I got a new scanner but kept my old laser printer
I have a real nice Apple laser printer, so I got the proper adapter for it. It's a little more inconvenient, but I don't think the laser printers in my price range are as good as this one.
