Help. PB-17" PC slot eject button stuck.
My eject button on my PC card slot is stuck in the computer. Is there any way I can look inside to see if the spring popped off and repair it. I'm out of warranty, and really don't want to spend $300 for something like this. The rest of the computer (Powerbook G4 17" 1.33) works perfectly. I got a compact flash adapter that is flush when installed, so I can't pull it out by hand. I need this eject button, and using a steak knife to pop it out every time is dangerous with an alloy computer.

Any fix-it men/women got some advice?

1. See if this will help

I have a cd stuck in the drive of my 12in powerbook and it wont come out even in open firmware. The drive acts like it ejects it but nothing comes out and then reads the disk again. Is there a way to get it out without sending my powerbook back to apple? I just bought it 2 weeks ago.

I had the same problem with my Tibook. The solution was to remove the battery, remove the keyboard, press the reset button, replace the keyboard, insert the battery, restart the computer. It has worked fine since. Good Luck.

try restarting and, as the computer is booting, continuously tap the eject button. This got a Rolling Stones CD un-lodged from my drive. the previous poster's suggestion may work for TiBooks, but since the keyboard isn't removable and there isn't a reset button anywhere else on the new PBs (that i know of), i don't think it will work.

Try the good old paperclip trick. There should be a hole at the right. Insert the paperclip; you'll feel a slight resistance, which is a mechanical thing which will eject the cd.

2. It's a mechanical, not electronic or software problem.
See...

Number 6 here.

The button on the right side is spring loaded, and mine is recessed in the computer, so no "push to eject" action. Mine right now is flush like the picture, but it stays that way when a card is inserted, instead of popping out like it's supposed to. I want to get into it to check the spring, but I don't want to damage my machine.

3. Can you get access to the PC card from the bottom?
For some reason I got the PC slot confused with the CD player.

I googled "powerbook PC card eject button" and got a lot of hits. Most likely you can glean something from this.
