I have a question about folders and icons in tiger.
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 10:54 PM by reprobate

In windoze I used a program called E-Icons which allowed me to change the icon for any folder or program. Handy to assign the program icon to the folder for it.

In the finder:applications some of my applications are within their own folders to hold the documentation that came with them, so their handy for reference. What I'd like to do is assign the icon for the program to the program's folder for easier access. Is there a way to do this in Tiger?

1. single click on the application. Go to file/get info

click on the small icon at top of the window, then at the menu hit copy.

Close the get info window. now single click on the enclosing folder. Open get info, click on the icon then paste. The application icon should appear.

In your finder window you can grab the application, drag it to the sidebar and drop. It will make an alias (shortcut) To remove it, drag it from the sidebar and drop over the desktop and it will disappear in a puff of smoke.

3. No problem. I decided to try it out first before
sending it on. I knew how to change icons, I just never tried exactly what you wanted to do.

6. Great. With Apple there is a consistency of actions. Once you
learn the Apple way, you can pretty much figure out how things work because B will always follow A, and C will always follow B.

BTW, this is neat. The next time you boot, hold down the Apple key and the V key. It will do a verbose boot instead of the gray screen you usually see.
