First let me say that I absolutely LOVE my macs, the iMac G5, the Mini Mac, and the iBook. They all work wonderfully and all have the definate advantage over all other computers of having OS X as an operating system.
So, please understand that any negative comments I make here are directed not at the hardware, but at Apple's customer service, and their warrantee policies.
First, Apple provides three months free phone and online support. This compares with some PC sellers that offer lifetime free phone and online support. Second, and this is specifically for Florida residents, Apple cannot sell their Applecare extended warrantee in Florida because of some fantastic requirement placed on them by the state government, and not required by any other state or nation. IMHO this is a political move instigated by Microshaft, tho I may be wrong.
Last night I posted on the .Mac boards an article in several forums about just this extended warrantee prblem in Florida. There was nothing in it that denegrated Apple in any way, just suggestions for writing everyone's state representative in an effort to correct the problem. Each of my posts was erased and I got an email telling me that it was not permitted on the Apple forums, with a suggestion to contact the Apple Customer Relations Group. After searching the Apple website and googling for the term I could find NO reference to anything that resembled such a group.
So I have resolved that in the future I will continue to by Macs, but I will not buy them from Apple. I will buy them from places like Best Buy or CompUSA, where I CAN buy the extended warrantee from them. For instance, CompUSA offers a two year extended warrantee for the iMac like Apple, for $249 while Apple wants only $169. The difference is that I can buy the CompUSA warrantee but I CANNOT buy the Apple warrantee.
Any comments from mac users in the good state of Florida?
