I can't find my secondary HD.

I ejected it the other day, and unhooked the firewire, so I can use my PB on the couch. I turned the HD off.

I plugged it back in, but no orange icon. Power cycled the HD, no go. Unplugged and plugged back in the firewire, no dice. Did a restart with, and then without the HD power on. Nothing.

My PB just doesn't know it's there.:shrug:

1. Try this:

power down. Remove battery, unplug everything. Let sit for 15-20 minutes.

Put the battery back in, reboot. Now plug everything back in.

Let me know if that works.

Some people have had the same problem with 10.3.9 on powerbook.

Try changing the firewire cable if you have one.

3. Repair permissions, and run disc utility.

While you are doing that, I will do another search on Google.

BTW, do you run utilities like MacJanitor? If you don't, I encourage you to do so.

6. It's always good to try the easy stuff before you have to

go to the service department.

Do hit google and plug in the problem. Mess with the phrasing to see if you can find other hits.

7. It still didn't work.

The LaCie site said the same thing you did. The only other option when I read around is Disc Warrior.

Any more suggestions before I fork over $80?

8. Ok, after DW and $100! It still won't see the FW HD.

My Macintosh disk was pretty fragmented and I had some broken things too .

13 directory files, 2 incorrect keys, 64 folders with wrong icon flags.

It's got to be the LaCie HD. Nothing's wrong with the FW port, as it sees my iPod which is daisy-chained through the LaCie (I warriored it too, it was 64% fragged), but DiskWarrior didn't see any LaCie HD.:shrug:

LaCie formats it if I send it in for repair, which means they wipe it.:scared:

9. Are all the connections secure in the drive?

Open the case and make sure the ribbon strip is firmly attached to the drive.

Does the drive spin up? If it does, is there any clicking?

10. Got it! I downloaded firmware from LaCie.

Then I unhooked the power cable (per the LaCie guy's instructions), flipped it back on, plugged it in, and it mounted. Disc Warror still won't touch it because it's either not HFS or built in SMART testing, whatever that is, so I can't repair whatever's wrong inside it (The lacie guy said it may still have a problem). Got any pointers on that?

But the good news is, that I lost NO data...at least that I know of. Thanks for your help Alfredo, you pointed me in the right direction.:hi:

11. Terrific! Will OSX disc utility recognize it? It should if it mounts.

If it does, run both repair functions.

So glad you didn't lose data.
