BBC: Microsoft is pulling the plug on Mac version of Internet Explorer

End nears for Mac version of IE

The minority of Mac users on IE will need to switch

Microsoft has advised Mac users of Internet Explorer (IE) to switch to rival browsers such as Apple's Safari.

The advice came as the software giant formally announced the end of IE for Apple Macs.

Microsoft initially said it had stopped work on the browser in June 2003.

No more security updates will be provided as from the New Year. The browser itself will be removed from Microsoft's Mactopia site and no longer be available for download.

(snip)

Fact is, Safari is so far superior to IE, it isn't funny. In the beginning, a few sites I dealt with did not work with Safari, but with the updates, that has stopped and I haven't had a problem in months.

1. I havent used IE in years
Firefox, Safari, and my current browser Camino all make IE look like a badly coded alpha version (oh wait... it IS! ha!). It amuses me that apple bends over backwards to make microsoft compatable programs, while microsoft is taking IE off the market, and hasn't updated the mac version of messanger or media player in years

2. Sniff! Couldn't happen to a nicer OS.
I scrubbed IE off my iBook when it kept managing to lock the iBook up when browsing certain web pages. Piece of junk.

Firefox works fine, and I've kept Safari as a backup. No problems.

5. Microsoft: Late again.
Sorry boys, the users already pulled the plug on that browser about 3 years ago.

6. Are they going to make Win Media Player work now?
I have to dig out exploder every time I want to watch a Crooks and Liars video, because WMP dies when I try and play it off of Safari. I looked at MS's website, and it says "Internet Explorer for mac must be used, when downloading."

Damn thing breaks every 10 days anyhow. What is wrong with QT? Why don't more people use it?:eyes:

7. MShaft said they would develop WMP for Mac no further.

There is an alternative tho. The new issue of MacWorld recommends Flip4Mac WMV Player
