questions about macs and monitors

hi! I'm new to the mac forum (although I've used macs for forever) so I thought I'd say hi to everyone.

I'm currently having a small issue with compatibility problems, and I was hoping someone could help. Last week my monitor had an incident with my cat, and is out of commission. My boss offered me a lovely large monitor that was no longer in use -- the only problem is that its a Gateway VX900, which doesn't seem to want to work with my power mac. I took it anyway, hoping I could do something with it, but honestly I'm clueless. I really don't know much about the hardware end of this sort of stuff. So, I was wondering, does anyone know how to rig this thing so it will work?
