Apple unveils 'revolutionary' new laptop
http://business.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=47282006

Computer giant Apple last night unveiled a "revolutionary" new laptop computer which it says is four to five times faster than its predecessor.

The MacBook Pro is just one inch thick and weighs 5.6lb. Its increased speed is down to a new Intel chip, the first time Apple has used Intel processors. The chip will be rolled out to all new Mac machines this year.

The collaboration between Apple and Intel has sent shockwaves through the computer industry and their latest joint products will add a new dimension to the ultra-competitive marketplace.

The new notebook computer has a 15.4in screen and a built-in camera, so users can access video conferencing "on the go" or make their own films, claims Apple.

1. Before I get a laptop that is an inch thick
I want one that:
Can be dropped from 15 feet and not even dent
Can run for 24 hours on a single charge
Has a built-in mouse option other than those fucking touch pads

When I get to that point, THEN I'll worry about how THIN it is

4. Do you own ANYTHING that can be dropped from 15 feet?
Without getting a dent?

I'd like to be able to drop it from a table without worrying about it failing to work. Scratches and dents? Not so worried. It's my data and such I am most worried about.

5. well, i'm exaggerating
i'm just saying that i'd prefer durability in current products before we make tinier and even more delicate ones

9. Heheh, I was guessing so.
:)

I've one of the iBooks with the problematic logic boards. It's seems that if they had made the chassis a bit more rigid it wouldn't be such a problem. SO I know where you are coming from when you say you'd like them to be more rugged.

Now, if you wanna talk about making them coffee proof...

7. track pad is better than those obnoxious keyboard nubs.
Those truly suck.

I actually prefer the touch pad to a track ball (which is what I think you're asking for rather than a built in mouse). There are a lot of compact mice out there that work on USB (which is how desktop mice work...)

No battery on the planet can do as much work as a computer requires for a 24 hour single charge. The state of battery technology is just not that good yet.

And someone else has covered the denting issue.

8. Well
as i said above, i was exaggerating about the denting. I just want a really tough computer.

I WILL agree that those damn knobs suck even more than touch pads.

2. I like the magnetic power plug. What a good idea.
Knew a guy who lost a laptop because someone tripped over the power cord.

3. We keep having to get new power cords
due to tripping on them and yanking it out.
