Apple Benchmarketing Raises Questions
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,1136018,00.asp

Will the G5 systems from Apple truly be the "fastest personal computers in the world"? Steve Jobs certainly made a convincing case that they will. But after a bit of poking and prodding, I have my doubts.

Jobs' claim that its new G5 systems will be the fastest personal computers on the market was reiterated several times during Monday's keynote.

Historically, Apple has validated such claims by using a very small number of benchmarks, and often just one: a now ancient benchmark developed by BYTE Magazine, called BYTEmark, and one which even BYTE suggested could not, by itself, accurately describe the performance of the system. Apple, however, used BYTEmark to test its own G3 processors as this Google cache shows.

THIS year's keynote was on Tuesday, which means you might want to check the date on that article. "June, 2003" if you were wondering.
