Mac OSX Tiger Is a Big Improvement
I have installed Tiger for the first time on my G4 and am presently happy with the speed improvement. I'm gonna like customizing my system...

anyone have the same experience?

1. Actually, no. I went back to 10.3.
I was having all sorts of weird performance issues, and crashes in three of my four favorite applications.

I didn't see Dashboard as such an improvement I was willing to deal with the instabilities.

For what it's worth, I'm on a 1 GHz 15 inch Powerbook with 1 Gb of RAM and an upgraded 80 GB 7200 hard drive.

The only problem I'm having now is that I can't auto log into the wireless network when I restart the machine. But having to type my 26 digit password is a minor issue in comparison.

2. Yes there are some apps that needed updating.

I made the transition when tiger first came out, and had to wait a few weeks before all the software was compatible. Since then I've had no problems. All the programs I use were updated to Tiger fairly quickly and needed just a quick download to bring them up to date.

Which software were you having problems with?

3. iWork, NeoOffice, Mariner Office, Neverwinter Nights off the top o my head
There may have been others. Also I think I was having problems with the Corel imaging suite, but I can't remember for certain. And my copies of Dreamweaver and Fireworks never did run right.

We upgraded as soon as Tiger came out, (April, 2005) and I spent six months dealing with the bugs. I didn't revert to 10.3 until January of this year, and was still waiting for app updates on iWork and Mariner Office. Since I word crunching software is vital to what I do for a living, I really couldn't afford to wait the six months I did.

4. Do you repair permissions when you install software?
I got Tiger the day it came out and have never had the issues I'm reading about other people having. Honestly, not one.

I first installed it on my G4 iBook 933Mhz / 640 RAM. After Spotlight indexed the HD and 2 external drives, I was off and running.

I got a G5 iSight 1.9GHz / 1G RAM in December. It just purrs.

Remember to use your install disc to repair permissions on the start-up disk.

6. I got it and love it.
I have a G5 1.8 single proc with 2 gigs of mem 5 hd's.
The first thing I noticed was start up was a lot faster.
I haven't had a single issue with the finder and love dashboard. I use it all the time. I keep a local movie listing, weather map, 5 day forcast, todays foxtrot comic and a few other things on there.
Just like any system, make sure you keep up with the updates (Tiger makes that very easy) and your security updates.
