Anybody have any experience with Apple Remote Desktop?

Anybody have any experience with Apple Remote Desktop?
I have to be away from my Mac for a while, but I'll have regular access to another Mac where I'm going. If I install Apple Remote Desktop on both machines, will I be able to control my home machine from wherever I am? Say, for example, download a torrent file to the home machine, and start it downloading with a torrent client?
