MacBook Pro logic boards get a quiet update from AppleAfter a slew of different problems with MacBook Pros since they've begun shipping, Apple has begun to quietly replace the logic boards in some MacBook Pros that are being taken in for repair by an authorized service provider, but with an even newer logic board than in the past. MacNN sources claim that MacBook Pro users who have had past problems with their machines and are bringing them in for repair may come back with new logic boards that, this time around, require a newer version of the operating system in order to function properly.
Apple told its sevice partners that some MacBook Pro computers may require Mac OS X 10.4.6 after having the main logic board replaced: "When a MacBook Pro goes in for repair, some computers may receive a different version of the main logic board (MLB) than others. The alternate MLB provides equal functionality to the one it replaces. It does not add any new functionality. It is important to note, however, that the new MLB requires a later version of the Mac OS X operating system to be installed."
