Jacked by a crackhead.

I feel so bad for her - sullied by nefarious sorts - abused and no longer treated lovingly and gently. Unsure of where she may end up.

Fuckers.

4. Those batteries are not part of the Sony recall.
Only some G4 PowerBooks and iBooks. None of them 17" models.

6. Yeah, but we can dream, can't we? ;)
No word yet if it will be found.

I had it at my office - and 2 youngish men (late teens? early twenties?) broke in last Tuesday night. They didn't take much - 3 laptops, 2 work cell phones, and a visor w/ some cds in it that belong to a co-worker.

TWO of the three missing laptops are my personal machines. One was my new MBP, and the other a super maxed out 17" Toshiba that was my first laptop and am still in love with after 2 years. In fact - even though I've had it for 2 years it's STILL at the top of the heap in power and features.

Thankfully - the jagoffs have been using the cellphones. The cops are giving it another week to try and let them establish a better calling pattern. So far, most numbers have only been called once.

At this point though - I really want both machines replaced, AND I'd like my old ones back. Not due to greed - but I know some crackheads haven't been treating my stuff very gently or with concern or care. My fear is I'll get them both back, insurance won't replace them, and I'll have nothing but trouble with each of them from here on out. But at the same time - I don't want the stolen ones circulating around forever with my personal stuff on them so I'll always wonder who's got my information. *sigh* The whole thing just SUCKS.

There's a company in England who sells a service that will track laptops. http://orbicule.com/undercover/
It will track a stolen laptop (after you report it to Orbicule) when the thief logs onto the internet, take his pic using the iPhoto camera and transmit it.. and shut the puter down. He won't be able to log in after an initial 30 minutes.

It's designed for Macs.

There's also http://www.absolute.com/ who advertise as "LoJack for laptops".
