Superdrive won't mount DVDs

everything else works fine except that. Won't do it in OSX or OS 9 boot. Should I replace it or may it be a software issue.

1. Did you just install the Superdrive or was it original equipment?

What version of OS X are you running?

What computer are you on?

Is it a commercial DVD or a DVD-R/DVD-RW?

Have you tried logging out or restarting?

2. original drive

G4 Digial Audio desktop. Won't mount Commerial DVDs or DVD-R/DVD-RW. Does CDs fine. Multiple reboots in both OSX & OS9 still nothing. I have ordered a new drive hopefully it will solve it.

3. Is your firmware up to date?

Have you installed the latest updates to OS X?

Hmmm. It would be a pretty subtle hardware problem that prohibits reading DVDs but allows CDs. (I think there is a switch to a laser of a different wavelength when going from CD to DVD.)

Thankfully the prices of Superdrives have dropped. I hope you can get a better, faster one as a replacement.
