Several questions
OK. I am doing several upgrades to my Mac and this is the first time I will be tackling this type of thing in my G4. I'm going to be installing a 2nd hard drive and I have this info to work with:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=31292

Doesn't seem too bad. Anyone have experience with this? Once it's in can I make the 2 HDs act like one big one?

Also getting some RAM. I assume this is easy. Yes?

Also installing a superdrive. Anything I need to worry about? Once I get it in do I need new SW to copy CDs (I already have a combo drive)?

I need to upgrade my OS but Leopard looks better than Tiger. THink I should just wait a bit?

Thanks.

1. Can address a couple of things
If you're willing to erase and reinstall everything, you can reconfigure your 2 drives as a RAID using Disk Utility.

RAM is almost always easy to install yourself.

Can't answer about the SuperDrive - My PB has always had one. Try the Mac Discussion forums.

As to the Leopard upgrade - the rumor is that G4's won't be supported so grab that Tiger cause your G4 might not be able to catch the Leopard.

2. Hmm.
Everything seems to be fine. I don't want to raid the drives. I just want the extra stotage space. Whenever I use disk utility to partition it it locks up. WTF?

3. I've never partitioned a drive
So no clue as to that.

Sorry -

4. Leopard and G4s

I seriously doubt that. Do you know how many people still have G4's? How much money would Apple lose if they did not offer Leopard for them? People are much more likely to upgrade their operating system than buy a new computer.

6. MacAddict is not reliable
http://theplaceforitall.com/105requirements.html

Mac OS X Leopard Developer Preview System Requirements
I have found out that on the Mac OS X Leopard Developer Preview DVD, handed-out to developers at WWDC, there is a file called Read Before You Install. In this file it says:

You must have a Macintosh computer with:
an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4 or G5 processor
a DVD drive
built-in FireWire
at least 256 MB of RAM for a Power-PC based Mac and 512 MB for an Intel-based Mac (additional RAM is recommended for development purposes)
a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
at least 6 GB of disk space available, or 8 GB if you install the developer tools

So that looks like G3's get the boot (most of them already cant run Tiger anyway).

7. Cool, I'm hoping that this is indeed the case.
But I will wait for Leopard to be out a few months as I had Tiger problems.
