2 q's - playing AVI files and getting image properties off a picture
Anyone successfully played AVI files on their Mac? I tried VLC media player but it does not seem to work. I have XP on a tiny partition on my Mac (used Boot Camp) soley to allow me to play AVI files and because my stupid ISP won't accept authentication for my e-mail a/c on the Mac. Is the Pro version of Quicktime able to play AVI files w/out additional codecs or plug-ins. Anyone know about this (apparently perennial) Mac issue?

Btw, I am on an IMac with Intel Duo CPU if that is relevant.

In Windows I can r/click on an image and call up the location of the pic on the net - how do I do that on a Mac? I suspect it is a case of using the ctrl key and navigating from the menu that comes up.

Thnx in advance - OSX is just a joy to use.

1. as far as getting image properties-
Yeah, to get the image properties in OSX, it's down to what browser you use.

Safari wont do a 'properties' like you'd get in windows.

FireFox does do that though. Right click (if you're using a 2 button) or ctrl click.

As for AVI's go, my memory is fuzzy about what I've tried to open in Quicktime. The problem AVI's were usually DivX codec related.

So I play all AVIs in the DivX player. (usually I just switch to the PC, anyway(because I have all the audio hooked up to it for games..))

2. thanks for the info'
I use Opera occasionally so that might work if I need to get the properties. Will try it and see.

I will install the DivX package for Mac - I did not suss that one out - I think DivX player might be all I need.

Thanks again

3. Am I understanding this right:
You are booting OSX...to run BootCamp...to boot in XP...to run VLC...just to view .AVIs?

Damn, talk about taking the longest possible route! Or am I missing
something here? Is there no VLC for your native OS?

I'm still using a 700mhz G4 OSX 10.2.8, and run the OSX-native VLC directly.
Been playing .AVIs for years.

Pic question: should be the same as WinDoze: RightClick on the image, a menu comes up.

4. I have a dual boot set up
I select the OS at start up - I use the XP partition to watch AVI's and send e-mail because my ISP's mail servers don't accept authentication - otherwise I boot into OSX as default - easy procedure, nothing convoluted about it. Sorry if it was a garbled post.

I have just installed DivX player which works fine (thanks to the poster who replied above) VLC does not work on my Mac. Installed it, uninstalled it and re-installed it. It won't open AVI files.

My r/click does not work but maybe it's the Preferences for the mouse that needs tweaking that's all.

thnx
