Does anyone know of a good way to get clean audio from a G5 to a tape recorder?

I've tried a 1/8 headphone jack connector, but there's a lot of nat sound in the recording.

Is there a better way to get clean sound?

1. i dont know what you mean by nat sound in the recording but if

you have a proper adaptor from the stereo 1/8 inch unbalanced out of the computer to whatever connections your tape recorder has it should be fine.

2. Sorry for the confusion. "Nat sound" is background noise.

When I listen straight from the computer without trying to tape, the discussion sounds pretty clean.

When I hooked up the 1/8 headphone adaptor and taped it, the speaker was fine, until he paused.
Every time he paused, the background noise got very loud. Every cough, every rattle of papers was pretty much as loud as the speaker. Music intervals were shrill and seemed louder than the speaker had been.

I bought the adaptor from Radio Shack. Could that be part of the problem?

I guess I just don't understand why the audio doesn't sound the same when taped as it did when I was listening to the discussion straight from my computer.

3. what it sounds like is that your tape recorder has an auto level control

feature that is on.
it sounds like it is boosting the gain in the quiet parts.

hopefully there is a way to disable it.

what type of recorder is it, maybe i can find a manual on the internet and see.

4. It was a very cheap recorder that I bought at Office Depot.

Sony TCM-929. I think I only paid $20 for it.

It sounds as though the problem is in the recorder rather than the audio cable then?

I had very poor luck when I went looking for a portable audio cassette recorder.
I bought another one, Sony TCM-400DV. It was over twice the price of the other model, but the sound quality isn't as good.

5. I still have everything that came with the recorder.

I found a little instruction sheet that was included, but I have a feeling that it's too cheap a unit to be finely adjusted.
