I cannot believe it. Apple imitates Microsoft
in selling a software for either a single user or a family?

I am still using OS 10.2.8 and went to the Apple site to see about downloading a newer version. There is already a 10.4, and 10.5 is coming soon but there are different prices for a single user and for a family.

I remember the complaints when Microsoft did it with one of its windows and now Apple is doing the same?

1. As far as I know, they've offered this for quite a while
Most of their software packages can be purchased this way. For people with multiple Macs it's a great deal.

2. Yup, you're right but...
...it wasn't too long ago that when you bought one OS, you could load it onto as many machines as you owned. I think was the case until late 10.2 or start of 10.3?? Can't remember now. Anyway, I think that you can still do this, buy one copy of the current OS X, and load it on multiple machines? Actually, I don't know because I'm down to one machine now. Anyone know?

3. So you never read the EULA..
You have never been able to legally do this.. And by never I mean from 7.5. That was the first EULA I read regarding Apple's operating systems. They have never asked for a serial on consumer OS's.

4. Legally, you could never do that
But except for OSX Server, Apple's OS's don't require a serial number.

5. I've never heard of them enforcing this. The hardware is their
focus. The software just adds value.

6. Well, no, they don't worry about it as much as M$
...since, except for during the Clone Wars, you've always had to own Apple hardware to run Apple OS's.

7. Software is the main revenue stream for MS, so I can
see them wanting to enforce the EULA more than Apple.
