Need advice on getting a new mouse

The scroll button on my Apple Mighty Mouse is now kaput after less than a year of average usage. :nuke: :wtf:



I didn't know the scroll button crapping out was such a widespread problem w/other users. Until now. :bounce: :mad:

I like the feel of the Mighty mouse (including the formerly alive multi-directional scroll button). Are there any suitable replacements out there?

1. I use a Logitech wireless mouse.

I never liked the feel of the Mighty mouse.

2. Consider a trackball. I switched to the MS Trackball Optical a couple of years

ago after some serious repetitive motion injury (mouse shoulder). Five programmable buttons plus a scroll wheel. Also takes up less desk space.

5. I second the trackball. I am using a Kensington Expert Mouse Pro

The trackball is roughly the size of a cue ball. It has four buttons, scroll wheel, and six programmable buttons. I love it. Not sure if they still make this model. It used to cost $99.




It has a detachable wrist rest. Even without the rest it is a very comfortable mouse to use. It's very accurate and fast. You get a lot of action with the minimum of movement. That's important for Arthritis sufferers and those prone to RSI. I have a friend with MS and he swears by the big trackballs sold by Kensington.

8. Logitech Trackman Wheel

This thing, plus a M$ wireless ergonomic keyboard, has helped me get rid of scary wrist pain that I was afraid foreshadowed carpal tunnel syndrome. No problems now, plus it requires very little desk space.

3. I just bought a Danger Mouse

I've got small hands, so I get bothered quickly by the humped-back typical Microsoft design. I didn't really want a notebook sized mouse, and after reading the customer reviews of the Mighty Mouse (ball gets dirty really fast, apparently) I wasn't impressed, so I went Googling and found this. It's not as functional as the MM, but it has the same shape, and a very smooth, small scroll wheel. It's extremely fast (I had to set the speeds to the slowest settings) and I'm quite happy with it.

6. Happened to me this evening

I suppose I've been using my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse for about a year, and suddenly the scroll button didn't. Cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free swab did the trick. You don't notice how dirty the ball is getting: but then you clean it, and can see it changing colour as the gunk comes off!

MUCH easier on the arm, and you don't have to clean it!

9. Apple's "Mighty Mouse" IS an optical mouse. The trackball on the top is for scrolling.
