It’s a classic example of Apple’s under-promise and over-deliver philosophy. In a last minute surprise Apple has posted new information about the iPhone battery and touchscreen that is sure to please potential buyers. In a press release posted this morning Apple claims that iPhone now gets up to eight hours of talk time.

This is significantly more than the 5 hours of video/talk time and 16 hours of audio playback that Apple estimated when iPhone was announced at Macworld Expo 2007 in January

1. still can't change the battery

which is a hangup for me. I get about 8 hours of talk time on my fauxberry, but once you start doing web stuff and documents, you can eat battery life in a hurry.

it's also annoying that it isn't compatible with the Blackberry push system, which means I can't use it for work.

2. Sure, if you don't use it

Up to eight hours of talk time if you use it for nothing else. But if you use its other functionality, how long will the battery last? This is what I don't get about multifunction devices. I have a phone, iPod, and PDA, and of course it'd be great if I could cut down the clutter by combining those, but they're not equally important. If I drain the iPod's battery, that's no big deal: I just go without music until I get home. If I drain the PDA, that's a bit more of a nuisance, but I'll survive. If I drain the phone, that could be very bad news if I need it in an emergency. So I'm not sure I want to combine my phone with an entertainment device until battery technology improves.
