Epson 4000 proofer.
What a hunk of fucking junk. They're just normal Quark files, and I know there are no PostScript issues, because they print just fine on my (13 year old, by the way) HP LaserJet.
I have never enountered such a bizarre, psychopathic printer in my life. When it DOES decide that it wants to print something, the result is absolutely beautiful. But ninety percent of the time, it finds some reason or another for not being able to complete the process of putting ink on paper.
And half the time when it DOES decide to actually print something, it follows one page of printing by believing it needs to "print" blank pages on however many sheets of paper that are in the feed tray. Then it informs me that it's out of paper.
And so it goes with the two-thousand-dollar brick in my office.
Thank you so much, Epson.
Any suggestions for a replacement? Whatever printer I use MUST have a very accurate PostScript CMYK RIP, because what I need to do is to get a good simulation of offset-printing output.
