Third time today I have had this little ditty pop up on my screeen

My screen goes away and this pops up. When I try to click it off, I get an error message. I realize this is just someone trying to sell me something. Since I have a Mac, I always ignore these 'YOU NEED THIS VIRUS ELIMINATING PROGRAM' message. But three times in one day? And I use Firefox and don't normally deal with pop ups.

So what's the deal? And why am I getting this pop up?

1. Where are you getting this pop up. I get one from Huffingtonpost.

It really sucks because if you close the popup window, your browser redirects to their site.

I complained to Huffingtonpost about the redirect, telling them it makes me less likely to go there.

2. It's been 3 different sites

That is why I posted this question. If it was just one site, I would stop going there.

3. Some times my pop up blocker in Safari misses a window. Have you

tries surfing to the site using Safari? Be sure the pop up blocker is on in Safari. Check out how it works in Opera.

5. Here is a way to fix this problem...

1. In the Finder select GO from the menu bar.
2. Select "Go to Folder and enter "etc/" without the quotes.
3. In the etc folder find a file called hosts



4. Open that file with a text editor. Textmate or Textedit would be best here. Avoid Office or Appleworks or Pages.



5. Make it look like that.. and save. You should be prompted for your password.
6. Open applications/utilities/terminal
7. enter "sudo lookupd -flushcache" without the quotes. Hit enter. Enter your password again and hit enter.
