1. I have had some problems with Safari crashing since the update
The update automatically upgrades Safari to ver 3.0.4. It has tended to crash on me about every other day. I should point out that I leave Safari running 24hrs/day with lots of windows and tabs open. The problem might be with some flash animation on one of the open tabs or it might be some corrupted file somewhere.

I haven't had it crash in a couple of days, so maybe it was been cured when I ran Onyx the other day.

2. 3 ppc machines, no problems at all - did this last week
2 powerbooks and one ppc tower - only one was done with combo update, the other two were at 10.4.10 and I just did it through software update. Not a single issue.

Make sure you have no old Safari plugins or helper programs.
I had some problems with the old safari beta, but the new version is great - very noticeably faster.
I tend to run firefox for the web tools, etc. - but for general browsing, safari is speedy and elegant. Not a single crash, and I leave it running for days on end, just close the book to sleep.

The Saft plugin needs an update to run (gives you recovery of old sessions) but it runs fine now.

Good luck, supernova. Let us know how it goes!

3. You're luckier with Safari than I am
My iMac just had Safari crash again (I guess I spoke too soon before). I have an Intel machine.

4. It seems the Intel users are having more issues.
I always check xlr8yourmac, macfixit and similar sites for reports of any problems in preparation for ANY system update I do.
There were some reports of safari problems and others, but mostly from intel and/or old haxies and plugins. I try not to use too many of those, as it makes it easier to maintain our 4 mac network here.
I also sometimes run macjanitor before (and fix permissions before AND after an update), just as part of the deal. Since we leave our machines up for weeks at a time between boots, I tend to do those things when any update (or 3rd party installation) requires a reboot.

It could be that there are some legacy (non universal) bits and pieces that did not get the update because of permissions, not sure...

Best of luck on that.

5. My SO just had a crash too, "some beadweaver site" - maybe flash or other media plugin?
My two machines have not, and I tend to keep flash and other plugins pretty up to date, because I do web dev and graphics.
Could be a factor?

One silver lining of this:
She noticed that safari now has an option in history menu>Reopen all windows form last session.
Never noticed that in safari before, so it may be new with safari 3.

A nice feature that I use Saft for since 10.2 days., it comes in useful when you crash, to get back all the tabs/windows you had open.
Sessionsaver does this in firefox as well.
We'll probably get the crashes figured out eventually (apple and/or mac users as a group) - but till then, at least that feature saves some time.

10. My upgrade was smooth, but didn't fix that oh-so-slow Get Info ...
...takes 20-30 seconds to Get Info on a file. Been that way since the previous upgrade.
