Mail & Network Connection problems
So, just got a new MacBook - 2 gb ram, 160 gb Leopard 10.5.1- and I'm having network connection problems.

The wireless network that my G4 PowerBook & Mrs GoS's iBook connect to effortlessly, are inaccessible to the MacBook. Unfortunately the wireless router is my next door neighbors and even though we cat-sit for them and such, I don't like to ask too many favors.

And I'm having difficulty sending mail -

Anyone have problems with Leopard?

1. Have had some Leopard troubles but not with Mail. Some Questions:

What email client are you using?

Can you connect to the internet, but not email?

can you receive email but not send?

I've found that if you have separate email accounts it's easier to troubleshoot Mail.

That way you can send test messages back and forth between accounts to see where the bottleneck is.

Also, if you are using Apple Mail, I've had a couple of occasions where the outgoing server in preferences has changed for no apparent reason. Check that the right server is checked and 'Use only this server' checked for that account.

Hope this helps. It's the sum total of my knowledge of Mail troubleshooting.

2. Using Mac Mail
And it looks like (crossing fingers) that I've got the send and receive issue fixed. Had to change some port numbers around and now everything is going just fine.

The network issue another story - I'll talk to my neighbor and see if he'll change the password to 10 characters WEP ascii or longer as that seems to be the preferred fix on the Apple discussion board.

3. Apple, and most who know recommend WPA or WPA2 for security.

4. Got it solved
He set up his Apple Airport Express with a separate network account and I'm using that.
