Animated gifs and smilies?
How do I get animated gifs and smilies that I copy from other web sites to work?

I used to have an animated gif that Call Me Wesley made for me, a supernova...

But I can't get the animation to work, it's just a white dot, not an exploding dot.

Or if I copy a smilie from another web site to use on my website, it only copies one frame, not the entire sequence to get the animation.

What am I doing wrong?

1. What happens when you drag and drop the file onto your web browser?

2. Within Safari
on a website. It works fine.

But let's say I wanted to use this little guy :wow: somewhere else and save it to my .mac site.

I only get one frame. his mouth is either closed or open, but you don't see him opening and closing his mouth.

3. If you open the file in Preview, are all the frames presented?
If not, then it isn't going to work. Another way is to drop the file onto the Safari icon in the dock.

4. Preview in Panther (10.3.x) had a "Play" button
that would play the entire animation.

That vanished with Tiger.

If you drag the file into Text Edit (for example) it will play.

As alfredo says, if all the images show up in Preview, (open the drawer) it's all there and will play as it should if you choose to use the file (as part of a sig line in Mail, for example.)
