Help Please!!!! RE: Possible power source issue?

I had an iBook laptop I bought in Aug. 2001. I just bought a new MacBook laptop and got a FireWire to transfer everything from my old iBook (which is full to the brim, only 100 MB left of space) to my new MacBook. Everything with the transfer was going fine until I had to reboot the old laptop. It would not turn on again. It appears to not be holding a charge. I have been charging the old laptop for two days and the lights on the bottom of the old laptop, indicating how much charge is there, are not on, except for one blinking green light. My computer inclined friends say there is a problem with the power source. Now, I just need the old laptop to turn on JUST ONE MORE TIME so I can transfer everything to my new computer. Anyone have any ideas on how to get my old computer to turn on one last time without paying for a new power source???

2. option one: If an apple store is nearby, they will fix you up no charge

Op two: Any friends with ibooks or other compatible power supply?

You say you have been charging the old laptop - can't you turn it on while charging?
If the power converter works for charging, just boot it while plugged in.
unless I am misunderstanding that part.

Bottom line - apple folks will help you out.
A safe bet.

5. It depends on the vintage of the machine

I was in an Apple store when someone brought in an old "toilet seat" iBook, looking for a working charger. The staff clustered around, pleased to see a machine they regarded as a classic, but they were unable to help, explaining that they didn't stock kit for machines that old as a matter of policy. Your second-generation iBook might be too old for them. I don't know whether that's an Apple-wide policy or a local thing, but in any case you might get lucky with an employee who puts initiative ahead of rules.

6. I should have been more clear - not "fix the adapter" but get it to transfer

If they have a compatible adapter, they are very likely to help you get the old files over to your new macbook.
I have seen th apple "genies" stretch the rules before (even giving an adapter away) but helping get your files over is pretty certain.
That is strange that it won't boot even with power on - suggests another problem...??? --will have to think about that.

Please post back what you find out.

the problem is the "DC in Board" I had the same thing go bad on my iBook a few years ago. I could plug it in all day long and it would not turn on.

10. If it is an expensive repair, you could take out the HD, put it in a $20 ext case

Then get your data that way.
Put the HD back in and fix later, or sell the thing, whatever - after that.

Another way to go.

A friend of mine had a friend of his (who is a Mac expert) come in and transfer my stuff from my old Mac to my new Mac. So at least I got what I needed from the old one. The old one still doesn't work, but I guess I don't really need it to now. But thanks again for all your help/ideas/suggestions. :hi: :)
