My IBook G4 (early 2004) died. I tried to keep it going, but four logic boards later, I finally refused to bite the bullet and buy one. The others were covered either by warranty or by holding Apple's feet to the fire -- but anyhow, it finally came down to no dice.

So, I purchased a used MacBook (Black) with 160 GB HD, 2GB ram, etc. and it was apparently purchased in September and this guy is selling it because? I don't know. But the price was good; including shipping, it is $1300. Even with the teacher's discount, I saved $500 plus tax.

It also comes with software, including Tiger and Leopard and Windows.

I have not heard of any major issues with the Black Macbooks.

I have a Macbook pro, my second actually and have had no problems with either of them, other than being so popular they get stolen.

2. Have you tried using Undercover?

It's a form of LoJack for Macs.

They've got some success stories about recovery at http://www.orbicule.com

I've installed it, but never had to activate it.
