Question about restoring files on new computer
My old IBook G-4 is dead, succumbing to a fatal logic board failure; it will not boot. I have most of it downloaded and saved on an external hard drive. But the new Mac Book has a different operating system (Leopard) and I was using 10.3.9.
I used apple's backup to backup my hard drive.
Can I download this for Leopard and then restore my files? I'm really wanting my photo files and music.

Also, is there some way to download using fire wire from my poor g4? It won't startup; I get a blinking question mark.

1. What have you tried?

You could treat the iBook G4 as a hard drive.

Here's the deal from Apple Help

Shut down the computer to be used as a disk. Leave the other computer on.

Connect the two computers with a FireWire cable.

Start up the computer to be used as a disk, then open System Preferences, click Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start it up while holding down the T key.)

Your new 'puter will hopefully recognize the older one as a hard disk and you'll be able to transfer files.

Bonne chance!

2. Thanks for the information, but
It failed. I think the logic board failure is more or less absolute.
I have heard that it is possible to get the hard drive out and put it in a "sleeve," but nothing vital is on this drive. I can live without it.

Thanks! I love this place. And I really, really appreciate your post.

3. See if this could work for ya...
This thing seems to be awesome. I saw it the other day in the internets and think this could work for you. It is mac compatible.
