Apple snags 14 percent of US-based PC retail sales in February

By Katie Marsal
Published: 05:00 PM EST

Growth in Apple's personal computer business continued to outpace the industry average last month, with Macs accounting for a 14 percent unit share and 25 percent dollar share of all US-based PC retail sales, according to market research firm NPD.

The results -- first revealed in an investor note from Pacific Crest Securities analyst Andy Hargreaves on Monday -- represent 60 percent unit growth and 67 percent revenue growth over the same period one year ago. At the same time, overall US PC retail shipments grew just 9 percent on a 5 percent increase in revenues.

Apple saw particular strength in notebook systems, which rose 64 percent in units and 67 percent in revenues, suggesting strong sell-through of the company's new MacBook Air, noted Hargreaves.

"Macbook Air sales appear to be additive to total sales, rather than replacing Macbook Pro sales," he said. "We believe a new set of corporate customers make up a meaningful portion of MacBook Air buyers."

1. Worked on my wife. She went to buy a new iMac and came back with an iMac And an Air.
I'm thinking about a 17" MacBook Pro to replace my 17" G4 PowerBook.

2. I'd love to have a MacBook, but as it is, I have and enjoy my MacMini.
Don't forget to get a maintenance program to run the scripts that normally run at night when your laptops are normally off.

Or open your terminal and type

sudo periodic daily weekly monthly (hit return)
type in your password (hit return)

allow the scripts to run. It will take a few minutes. you will know it is done when the prompt returns.

flakey subculture. We stuck together.

4. Anecdotally at the coffee shops, I am seeing a lot more Macbooks and
MacBook Pros than I used to.

And one may say, well you are paying attention now that you have one of this.

So yes, take it with a grain of salt

And what I have yet to see is a macbook air

7. It is OUT of my price range
and I would not get one either, and I think I gave my reasons why when it was first announced

That does not mean I did not go to the Mac Store and played with it for a little while

:-)

The keyboard is fantastic. Hell, I even considered, for ten seconds, getting a wireless keyboard... It would be more crap to carry

8. This morning I saw Charlie Rose of PBS on Morning Joe. His face was
all messed up, bruised and bandaged. He fell and decided to protect his Mac Air instead of his face.

Now there's a real Mac fanatic.

I'd like to play with the Air, but the MacBook would suit my needs.

I'd be happy with a used pc laptop running Linux.
