Any reasons to avoid refurbished?

I can tell this old gal ("lamp" iMac) is getting ready to give up the ghost, and I'm looking at refurb Minis and displays.

Anyone ever have trouble with refurbished stuff from Apple? I can't see any reason not to save a few bucks. :shrug:

1. I have a 2000 model Mac G4 that was a refurb. It still works. What are you

going to do with your old lamp?

It's too bad the HD's going, it was already a hand-me-over from Mrs. Robb when the HD on my eMac did the same thing -- SMART failure warnings, then difficulty starting up, then adios.

I'll likely keep the lamp around with the thought of one day getting it up again (same as the cool iSub setup I've had in the corner that was left behind after 10.2).

I know I could replace drives on both, but the processor speed is so limiting at this point it's less worth it to me.

...As I think about it, I've got motorcycles just like this. I see a pattern!! :D

4. Hard drives are getting cheaper. It might be a platform for Linux.

3. i still have the old skool hair dryer bonnet mac as well but the hard drive died

my fault, i left the shutter open when i was on vacation and it was 110f the whole time i was gone and the sun was shining directly into that window.

I know a few people that have bought refurbed imacs and ipods and have had no problem.

Full disclosure, my husband works for Apple and i'm not trying to sell anyone of any of their products.

5. My first Mac was an Apple refurb

Big discount, and I never had any trouble with it. Don't forget that you get a full warranty, so there's not much risk. Unless you're looking for the very latest hardware, it's a good way to buy.

8. bought an ipod

it crashed and burned after about 6 months, but i bought the warranty, and it was very low hassle.

9. I have a refurbished G4 iMac and a refurbished G5 iMac.

I haven't had any difficulty with either. I upgrade to get the benefit of more power to process multimedia.

10. Several of mine have been refurbs.

Get AppleCare, but then again I'd say that with non-refurbs as well

Otherwise, go for it!
