HELP! Mail weirdness-not an Earthlink issue, looks Mac based

for some reason all 14,000+ of my email messages are duplicating themselves and filling up my mailbox as new messages. I checked my earthlink account via webmail and nothing seems amiss there, but I can't get it to stop on the mail application. Any idea what's causing this?

1. why not delete them all?

besides, the NSA has them securely saved already.

what OS are you running, on which mac. Are you using Apple mail or third party mail software?

What have you done to it lately? Any changes? Or updates?

3. This happened to me when Mail was acting funky and I reinstalled it.

All of a sudden, it went to the server and downloaded everything from the past 24 hours, most of which I already had.
