damn you apple- an iphone rant.
ok, so i wanted an iphone for my birthday, which DH stood in line for. i also wanted a new car stereo, one that was pod complaint. nobody bought it for me, and so i went out and got me one.
now, here is the rant part- the reason i really had to replace that car stereo, like right now, is that the battery on this iphone is SHIT!!! if you only use the phone, it might run all day on a charge. if you listen to the pod, 3-4 hours, tops. use your gps? 2 hours. i found this out the hard way after dropping 4 obama volunteers off in davenport, ia, and having the damn thing crap out. had no idea where they were. i was counting on the phone. one of them was a 17 y.o. kid.
so, i wanted something with a pod plug, so i could keep it charged. guess what? existing docks do not support charging. including the brand new stereo i just bought.
the poor guy at the store was blindsided, and apologetic. made calls to alpine, and was told, yup, sad, huh? i could upgrade for $100 bucks more, although he did not have the unit in stock. went to radio shack, and got the cig lighter adapter ($30), and got on the road again, but jesus h. christ.
having pod and phone in one was big part of my reason to want it. and i just assumed that with the same plug, i could use it in my existing doc, in hubby's car, and in my shiny new stereo. called apple ts, they said, oh, install the new os version, that might fix it. half an hour later, no, it did not fix it. they knew it was a problem, but they didn't know what was in the first upgrade of an os that they have been selling to however many million people have bought this phone?

oy. all i can say is oy.

1. First of all, turn off the 3G if you're not using it for web surfing. It eats the
battery for lunch.

Other ways to save power:

Make sure WiFi is turned off if you're roaming away from a WiFi area — otherwise, it searches for a signal constantly

Do you really need to know the moment you get an email? Turn off auto-check and set to manual, so it will only check for email when you open the email app

Adjust the screen brightness lower

Turn off EQ

And, BTW, this is a great product to have with you when you're out on the road:
