just bought my first mac!

:woo hoo: got a 2004 ibook G5 on ebay at a good price:) my 2 year old toshiba pc with vista :puke: was making me feel like throwing it too many times, so i had to do something about it.

was this a good move, even used? i know nothing about macs, can anyone point me in the right direction?

2. i got it yesterday

but i'm having problems already:( the mac came with a clean install of leopard (no cd tho), but after getting in, it had some updates, which i did. that's where the problems started:( i got the blue screen, so i used my pc to troubleshoot this at the apple website and managed to get back in. however, it began hanging on me, so i rebooted and now i cannot even log in. i get the apple and the spinning thing and then...nothing.


can anyone help? i'm an intermediate user, so i could probably figure it out if someone can help me!

i really don't want to return this to the shipper and wait some more, so i sure do appreciate any help anyone can give me!

3. The Apple store is a great resource

And yes, they will work on ANY Apple computer, even if you didn't buy it there.

4. yes, i do

but it's under a 30-day warranty, which is good, so back to the shipper it goes. i can't even log in now, so they most likely have to reinstall leopard.

5. Seriously, you might want to try the Apple store first

Reinstalling Leopard is a piece of cake.

i probably could do it myself, but this it's a used mac and althought it came installed with leopard, they didn't include the disc:(

7. I bought a family pac

and can only download Leopard on a certain number of computers. Don't know if that helps explain it or not. :shrug:

8. You should always get media with a Mac, even used

The fact that the seller didn't include the media suggests to me that it's not a legal install.

9. You need to buy a retail copy of Leopard or Tiger.

Do not buy a model specific version on eBay. Also, many of the 2004 iBooks came with only 256 MB for RAM - not nearly enough to run Leopard and barely enough for a slow running Tiger. What are the specs on your machine? If you're going to stick with Leopard, you really need 1 GB of RAM. Like others have said, take it to the Apple Store if possible.
