Simple Text Edit question
I'm working on a Mac with 10.1 and only Text Edit for writing.

I've asked the Help and saved the document in RTF instead of as Word doc.

The layout has 1" margins and won't let me change them.

Any advice much appreciated.

1. Adjusting TextEdit print margins
... Sure. If you have a copy of Microsoft Word or the completely free NeoOffice, create a file with the margins you like. Save it as an RTF file and then open it in TextEdit. TextEdit will respect the margins created in the other program. Judiciously use this RTF file as a template for other TextEdit documents ... http://www.macworld.com/article/61298/2007/11/texteditmargins.html

4. but seriously, unless you are totally squeezed by space limits
you HAVE to move to Neooffice. it is one kick ass program that rivals, beats, and destroys MS ORFICE.
and you will love the cost.

3. Not a direct answer ..... but have you tried OpenOffice?
It is pretty damned compatible with Office and is a free download.

I have and use Office, but I also have that just for the "gee whiz" factor. It works amazingly well and is very powerful.

5. now here's a debate topic
Neooffice vs. Open Office.

I tried an earlier version of Open, and formatting got all hairy reeded. NEver had such a problem with Neo.
Then I tried a later version of Open, and it worked fine. But I am quite content and happy with Neo. I eventually deleted my MS Orfice simply because I did not want any more MS updates (I don't trust them).
I haven't missed it once.

If you do PDFs? Neo office is a snap.

Spreadshyte? Neo.

WP? Neo.

6. I've been using Pages
But then, I don't do anything very complex as far as docs go, and I rarely have to file share.
