Been using OmniWeb since it went free. My observations

It's fast, and doesn't seem to bog down like Safari does on rare occasions. It's only crashed a few times. One problem is video content on CNN. Sometimes it doesn't work, but that's no big thing.

I like the way the tabs work. They are in a pull out drawer on the side. You can either have them as icons or text.

Downloading videos from youtube is easier on Safari, but that's no big thing.


So far I can recommend OmniWeb. Will I make it my default? Not sure, but it has become my favorite. I've only touched the surface of features. This browser has been around since the days of NeXt.

1. I am using it as my default and I like it.

I particularly like the pull out tabs, as I can quickly see if a page that auto-refreshes has changed.

I do not like the search the page feature - clumsy and has to be reopened every time I need it. I prefer the firefox function.

I have run into a few sites I can not access because OMNI is not supported, but that doesn't happen very often.

Overall, satisfied.

3. This may sound silly .... but does it allow you to change the color of visited links?

So far, the only browser I know that allows that is Firefox.

The above page indicates OHCachedLinkColor Corresponds to "visited link color" and controls the color property of visited links in the default style sheet; the default value is listed as 0.172 0.5 0.445

Preferences also allow you to set a custom style sheet

8. OK I think I found a user friendly way to do this:

Preferences>Appearance>
for "page colors" select "custom"
a drop down box appears
double-click on "visited link color" &c&c
