Can the new iphone (out friday) do tethering?
Some reports say it won't -- at least in the USA, the supposedly greatest country in the world... meanwhile, the iphone WILL tether in other countries... what gives?

Now my liking of AT&T has gone up, big time, thanks to improved coverage. They legitimately are keeping their word.

But I would like to use my Macbook Pro, go on vacation to relatives' house, and connect via broadband because 56k is not allowed at college.

It all seems silly as other carriers allow tethering, but maybe I'm in the dark...

Anybody know what the scoop is?

Thanks!!

(My windows mobile smartphone device (Fuze) isn't seen by my MBP by wire, and I refuse to use wireless for security concerns and wireless is easier to hack in the first place... I'm not sure it'd be seen via either connectivity method anyway...)

1. Yes, it will be able to, but not right now. AT&T needs to roll it out. NT

2. AT&T is what is keeping the iPhone behind.

I am amazed that people is willing to pay so much money for such shitty service. AT&T is very archaic and even the iphone plans in Europe are way cheaper than in the USA and people seem to be OK
getting riped off. I bought an European unlocked phone and I pay month to month service. If I want to I can get 3G and tethering without the need for a contract (and my phone is Mac compatible).

BTW... that new service I believe is valid on the 16 and 32G iPhones (3G-S), not in the 8G.

3. I might work with my Fuze and try to get it tethered then
Man, why is AT&T so archaic and overpriced in America...

Having said that, I know for a fact they HAVE increased their range (I can go into valleys and wooded areas and the signal is just as clear, :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: ) and there are other perks only AT&T has, so I am feeling rather better that these things will even out.
