Netflix Roku help requested.

I have an iMac OS 10.5.8 and I just purchased a Roku so I can watch Netflix on my TV. I have no need for wireless at this time, so my computer is hardwired to my cable modem and I have no router. My question is is it best to get a router for *just* this purpose or will a switch suffice? I don't have a laptop, bluetooth or anything that requires wireless so I'm debating as to what to do. Any thoughts?

If the router is the way to go, what are the best ones that are compatible with iMac?

1. A router is just a piece of networking equipment.

how is the "modem" connected to your computer?
Can you post the model number?

Anything connected with a RJ45 (network cable) is OS independent.

Generally all the configurations are done with web pages.

A router is used to connect two different network to one another.

Can't say more until I know what you have for network access. Probably a switch will suffice if it is connected to your computer using a normal network cable (a phone line is only 4 pins, where network is 8 - much bigger)
