I've used virtual pc before, was going to install it and read it doesn't work for anything beyond the old os's?

I need to use a database that is only avail for windows.

Is there any stable way to do this still?

1. Wikipedia says that Virtual PC isn't available for Macs beyond the PowerPC
So this may not be entirely an OSX issue: it seems to depend also on machine architecture

One option for you might be to setup a dual boot for your machine using bootcamp

Another option, if you want to go the virtual rout: you can try downloading the free versions of Sun's Virtual Box, setting up a virtual machine for windows, and running your database there. Virtual Box is pretty good stuff in my eyes, and I'd encourage you to try this first, before bothering to think through the issues associated with a dual boot

2. I second VirtualBox. I've used it to run Ubuntu.

Can you transfer the DB files to OpenOffice? If that works, you won't need virtualization.

3. What are the specs on your Mac?
If your Mac is Intel-based, you can use Boot Camp or other software to run Windows.

4. Tried to install Virtual PC on my newly acquired Mac Mini Intel--it crashed.

The thought of actually buying a standalone Windows OS is too repugnant to me, so I'm going to get Paralells next week. But I'm not complaining because thanks to Apple's Rosetta feature, I won't have to buy upgrades for the Microsoft Office, BB Edit, and Fetch I ran on my G4 PPC, and I can replace Photoshop with Gimp for now.

5. Two modern solutions
VMware Fustion or Parallels. I prefer the former.
