This will serve as my final transmission from the Mac-enstein
Edited on Thu Apr-29-10 09:26 PM by rocktivity
And it's not only appropriate that it should be transmitted to the DU Mac Users Group, it's poetic justice.

A twist of fate made me the owner of one of the early beige G3s in 1998. After seven happy years, its performance began to suffer, which I blamed on the births of OSX and G4. When I lamented on this very board that I was too broke to get a new Mac, Cheezus introduced me to Other World Computing. I got equipment upgrades (which I dared to install myself) plus the OSX emulator XPost Facto (for a fraction of what a Mac mini would have cost). The main upgrade was to a 1000HZ G4 processor, but since it resided in a G3's body, I dubbed my computer Mac-enstein.

Now it's five years later, my performance is suffering again, and Mac-enstein doesn't like booting up anymore. But since it's maxed out, there's nowhere to go but to a refurbished Mac Mini. If all goes well, my next DU post from home will be from there. But don't consider this a eulogy--like any good monster, Mac-enstein will never really die.

1. I'm here! I've made it to the other side!

All I had to do was plug in my monitor (with an adapter), printer, external drive, keyboard and ethernet--never touched my VOIP router or cable modem. I'm running with the snow leopards now!

3. Already have it set up. And thanks to Rosetta

I don't have to upgrade the versions of Microsoft Office, Virtual PC, and Fetch that I was running on the Mac-enstein. The only real headache I have is replacing Photoshop because there's no Mac Classic. I'll have to use Gimp in the meantime.

4. Scratch the Virtual PC

Tried to install it and it crashed. I'll get a copy of Paralells, which I definitely prefer to using Boot Camp plus a buying a standalone Windows OS.

P.S. Transferred my iTunes--it's working fine!
