No CD player, so no moving parts to skip on potholes, but a USB cable hooking into perfect sync with iPods, iPhones and now it can stream Pandora!
It has a little screen a wee bit bigger than a Nano's screen, and it shows album art, song/artist name, and time bar. That silver button to the right of the wheel is where you can change to the full album cover or the clock. Pandora needs 2 apps. Standard Pandora, and PandoraLink for Alpine App. Pioneer has one too, so make the right choice in iTunes. As long as you get a good 3G signal, Pandora will play flawlessly. The sound is incredible! I just got it installed tonight and I 'Took the Long Way Home', even though I listened to Year of the Cat, instead of Supertramp's album. It's also XM/Sirius ready too.
It works everything in an iPod. No problem. All iPod touches, and as far back as iPod Photo.
It will charge an iPhone (rare in car stereos, even with iPod compatibility), and plays the iPod app and Pandora. No need for airplane mode. It's Bluetooth enabled for hands free yapping, but that's extra.
It charges the iPad, but it does not recognize the iPad as a device... not yet anyway.
GAWD I sound like a salesman, but I'm in love with my new toy! My 9 year old car is like new again! I used a Monster Cable radio transmitter cable before, and the sound was just ok. Direct input from iPod/iPhone into your stereo sounds MUCH better, and you get no interference from radio stations bleeding over.
