The 'Magic Trackpad' came in the mail today.
What can I say. It's just like the trackpad on all current Apple portables, except bigger. It's nice to have the same gestures that I have on my MacBook Pro.

I think my Magic Mouse will be collecting dust. I'm going to be doing some design work this weekend. I'll see if I miss the 'precision' of a mouse or trackball.

1. I'm sure its different for averyone, but I can't use my CAD program with the trackpad on my MacBook
I use a Logitech mouse with six programmable buttons on the MacPro. Te most I can do on the trackpad is open files and pan.

7. I have one of those, but it seems to be dying. Sometimes the cursor will
Only move frm side to side. I think the wheels are worn to the point where they are not making good contact with the ball. I miss it.

12. If the mouse has a real ball (not optical), you know they need to be cleaned...
...from time to time, right? The ball comes out and you clean the
ball and the several small rollers that are revealed within the mouse.
Isopropyl alcohol on Q-tips will help.

Also, within the mouse, there are optical encoder wheels.
Depending on the mouse design, the may be harder to
access but dust and crud can get in there, making them
fail to work. Carefully blowing out the dust can make them
work again.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a mouse actually "wear out" to
the point where it couldn't be repaired.

13. The wheels are worn. I keep it very clean. I take it
apart and clean the inside too. I just plugged it in and it is working.

2. Mine came today, I just set it up, and so far it's working well
I don't have a MacBook, but when I've used one, it's the only trackpad that seemed to work well for me. It's going to take a tiny bit of getting used to, but so far, it's a joy to work with.

3. Got mine, too. Along with the wireless keyboard.
I like both of them.

I'm actually getting more used to the smaller keyboard since I have always used the extended keyboard.

Let us know how the design work went. I don't do much drawing yet, but will be doing a lot more in the future.

6. The wireless keyboard is the best keyboard I've owned. I'm
a long time Pro keyboard user.

Just bought a new system yesterday. Can't stand the mouse. I'm getting a trackpad.

5. I love the trackpad on my MacBook
If I were to ever use a desktop computer again, the trackpad would be a must.

11. Battery on my Macbook expanded in its old age and drove the trackpad nuts.
As it grows, it applies pressure to the underside of the trackpad.

This post was not possible without a borrowed battery.

9. I like it a lot. I switch to my Magic Mouse, Trackball, or tablet when I am doing precision work.
But when I am doing casual things like surfing, I prefer it and like that it has the same gestures as my MacBook Pro.

My wife tried mine out and ordered one after half a day of using it.

10. I'm loving the Magic Trackpad here.
the only time I switch to a mouse is when I have to work with copying large blocks of text, and when I play a few Windows-based games, other than that the trackpad is one of the best little gadgets out there.

14. Try out BetterTouchTool with it.
It allows you to customize and expand the repertoire of gestures.
I use the trackpad more than the mouse nowadays.
