I wish it had a more conventional way of managing files. I'm on the 9th of 10 days on the road, with the iPad being the only computer I have with me. So far, the only way I can save my next month's schedule data is to take a screenshot and view it in photos. I'll finally be able to synch it all via PDF reader when I get home and can hook up to my MacBook.

Other than that, it's a great and very portable laptop substitute.

1. The iPad is eating into netbook sales big time.
The whole computer industry was taken by surprise by its success.

Now everybody and his brother is scrambling to introduce a viable tablet, but it won't be until next year.

This is the iPhone all over again:

2. We are thinking about getting one for using the marine navigation software.
Any thoughts on that? We would get the gps model, of course, and could have it in the cockpit.

Now, we have to go below to look at the computer based charts.

5. Are you referring to the camera connection kit?
I picked one up. Overpriced, but pretty handy for a couple of things.

6. Yeah, that's it.
I imagine it'll have more uses when OS4 gets installed.

7. It's already handy for getting photos straight from your iPhone to the iPad,
as well as managing your photos in your camera or on your SD card. Supposedly via a jailbreak you can also use it to attach an external hard drive, though it didn't work when I tried a flash drive (but then, I'm afraid to do a jailbreak on it).

8. I just downloaded "dropbox"
on my home and work computers, and ipad. Now I just drop my files into dropbox and the they are on each device. It is very simple and it's free! It is an app on ipad, and you can download it in Mac or pc on the website, www.dropbox.com. I hope this works for you.

10. I use MobileMe which adds another 15G in a "cloud" but someone said about "Dropbox"...
which is a free service. I believe Google has a similar service.

11. There are a couple file managers out there for free that are decent
I had one for my ipod until i realized what was the point

but that aside, i've had reasonable success attaching the ipod as a camera to transfer some files, and I imagine the ipad is similar (having played with one at a friend's before they were out in europe, I hate to admit I was mostly impressed)

13. Doesnt the OP want to manage files within the ipad?
Common problem with the touch products in general imho.
well with apple in general.
really good at ONE thing at a time.
as long as that one thing is what apple wants you to do.
