Another Mac question from a iNewbie, Rosetta and

Ghostscripts. In my search for software for my iMac I have found a few programs that require either one of these programs. Is there any thing to worry about these programs?

by the way I'm really liking this computer, so long Microsoft...

1. Ghostscript has been around forever and is used by various programs. I once required it
for a TeX or LATeX installation. You should be OK with it if you download from a reputable site

Rosetta is part and parcel of OSX: it allows the newer operating system on intel hardware to run PowerPC-based apps. I'm not sure how you'd get rid of it if you wanted to, but I'd guess you probably don't want to try to kill it

5. I recently upgraded from a G3 beige PPC to an intel Mac Mini

Rosetta allows me to run the versions of Microsoft Office, BB Edit, and Fetch I was using, saving me money on upgrading them.

2. Ghostscript handles PDF's and other things.
Newer versions of OSX do not include Rosetta.

3. I guess you're right about Rosetta. I can't remember, but I may have done it as an
optional install when installing Snow Leopard on my machine

4. It's been so long since I've used PPC apps, I don't even
think about them. When Leopard killed Photoshop 7, I put PPC apps into the dustbin of history.
